Structural features

The foundation drilling structure to be welded is a three-wing concave type, that is, three blades are distributed on the periphery of the drill body, and there are two pillars in the middle. According to the hydraulic design, the width of each blade of foundation drilling is the same. The position of the socket, that is, the spatial position of the composite sheet on the bottom lip of the drill bit, is mainly determined by the cutting angle and the radial angle. The cutting angle is usually between 5° and 25° to suit the needs of different formations. For soft strata, the cutting angle should be smaller; for harder strata, the cutting angle should be larger to effectively cut the stratum and prevent impact damage to the composite sheet. The radial angle is generally 5° to 20° to facilitate the cleaning of the welding bit for the core barrel and the transfer of rock powder.


Material characteristics

There are two types of substrates for foundation drilling: steel body and carcass body. The steel body type is mainly made of high-strength low-alloy steel, which has the advantages of simple manufacturing, short production cycle, and low material cost. The carcass type is made of tungsten carbide powder, nickel powder, and copper-tin alloy powder by sintering. Since the foundation drilling composite sheet is composed of a cemented carbide (tungsten carbide) substrate and a synthetic diamond sheet, the welding part of the heavy drilling bit for the foundation is cemented carbide. The carcass type has higher welding strength, better impact resistance, and longer service life than the steel body type, but its manufacturing process is complex, the process is many, the production cycle is long, and the cost is high.


Welding method selection

At present, foundation drilling mainly adopts brazing, and the commonly used brazing methods include induction brazing and flame brazing. Heavy drilling bit for foundation induction brazing is a brazing method that is heated by the resistance heat generated by the induced current flowing through the workpiece. It has the advantages of fast heating speed and local heating of the workpiece. Flame brazing is heated by using combustible gas to blow air or pure oxygen to ignite the flame.
